Staff Development Training

The Juvenile Court Judges’ Commission’s training program is housed within the Center for Juvenile Justice Training and Research (CJJT&R) at Shippensburg University. Each year the Center sponsors seminars and workshops that are attended by approximately 2,000 juvenile probation officers, private and public residential facility staff and other allied professionals. The programs are taught by highly sought after presenters, many of whom are THE nationally known authorities in their respective area of expertise. The Center continues to be recognized nationally as providing state-of-the-art training opportunities for practitioners with few if any equals across the country.
The bulk of the in-service training offerings are hosted in the mid-State, either in Harrisburg or State College, divided into spring and fall training seasons. Each season regional programs are held in the Allentown and Pittsburgh areas. Additionally, the Center has collaborated with other organizations to co-host several web-based, distance learning courses.
Because of the Center’s program design, a blend of public and private elements, professionals from juvenile justice, youth service, education or related fields are all welcome to attend the programs that are offered at a nominal cost—representing an outstanding training value.
The Center for Juvenile Justice Training and Research is an approved Training Institute with the Pennsylvania Chemical Abuse Certification Board (PCACB). As such, our training may be counted toward meeting the CAC and ACAC continuing education requirements. Continuing education credit is also anticipated for licenses social workers (LCSW, LSW) and marital and family therapists (MFT) for many of the workshops.
Participants are responsible for making their own lodging arrangements. The rates, telephone numbers and special restrictions for each training site are listed on our registration website.
