Phase II Staff Safety Training

(PSS) Protective Safety Systems:  Control Tactics/Use of Force Model

Developed by John Desmedt

LOOKING TO TRAIN YOUR OFFICERS?

The list below has been compiled to let you know where PSS instructors exist throughout the Commonwealth of PA. While many counties have maintained instructors, we recognize that there are counties who currently do not have PSS instructors due to staff turnover, budget constraints, or they use a different safety model.

WHAT IF WE USE A DIFFERENT SAFETY MODEL?
It's perfectly fine to use a different model. The most important thing is the safety of your probation officers.

HOW DO WE FIND TRAINING IN OUR REGION?
We are hoping you will utilize this list to assist you in conducting certification courses for new officers, as well as re-certification courses for your current staff. Please use this page as a networking site to coordinate training with counties in your region. In the future, we hope to be able to post trainings being conducted by county probation departments.

WHAT IF WE WANT TO POST A TRAINING WE ARE HOSTING?
If you plan to host a certification or re-certification course adn would like to invite other counties to send their officers, you can either call the trainer directly for the county you wish to invite or if you want to post it here, please email the dates, times, location and any other specific information to John Herb. Please be sure to submit your training information several weeks before the event so that we have time to post it for viewing.

ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING TRAININGS AT THIS TIME?
Yes. The JCJC/CJJT&R Spring 2010 Training calendar will include a 32-hour new hire certification course May 18-21, 2010 at Shippensburg University. Refer to the spring training schedule for further information. The training will be conducted by at least two certified senior advanced instructors, Gregory Young, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole and Becky Coe, Adams County Juvenile Probation.
